 The SRA has published its final draft of the Handbook containing all the regulatory requirements (including a new Code of Conduct and new Accounts Rules) applicable to SRA regulated bodies. The new Handbook will come into force on 6 October 2011 and represents a fundamental shift in the way solicitors are regulated. This is something that will affect all lawyers and firms should be preparing for its impact now.

The following topics are covered in this session:
(i) a brief overview of the provisions of the Legal Services Act 2007 including the definition of Alternative Business Structures,
(ii) the structure and contents of the Handbook (including a description of the Principles),
(iii) the Authorisation Rules,
(iv) Compliance Officers (including the appointment of a Compliance Officer for Legal Practice and a Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration), and
(v) the Code of Conduct covering client care, costs information, complaints, equality and diversity, conflicts, confidentiality and disclosure, your client and the court, introductions to third parties, business management, publicity, fee sharing and referrals, relations with third parties and regulators and separate businesses.

Terms: You can stream the videos to your PC or laptop all at a time and place that suits you. The video is also accompanied by downloadable slides, notes and an assessment. These are all accessible via your individual user account. Once you have watched the video and read the notes, you may then take the assessment to test what you have learnt. Once you have attained 60% or more on the assessment, you may claim 2.5 CPD points from this product.
To enable a quick response from us, the video can be paid for only by credit card or BACS transfer (not by cheque). This product is purchased on a per person/per licence basis (i.e. everyone who wishes to access the product must have their own licence). Once you have purchased your video, you will be sent emails from EPS Learning containing your access details and a link to your individual user account, and details of how to access your purchased product. If you have purchased multiple licences, you will be provided with a code which can be used by the other users you have purchased licences for.
You will have sixty days to access your product before it expires. You can watch the video as many times as you like during this sixty day period.
